What a delight! Admittedly, foreign films requiring me to read subtitles have never been at the top of my list. I am very fond of reading; I do, however, prefer to read books. Nonetheless, I trudged to the theater to see Amelie and boy was I surprised. This one was worth the read! Amelie, played by Audrey Tautou, once a very precocious, lonely, and insightful child has now grown into… well just a very weird, but extremely wonderful young woman. She convinces herself that her purpose in life is to help other people fix their lives. While a noble cause resulting in some amusing and oft’ times heartwarming outcomes, her actions really serve to protect her from facing her own issues. I have to say – she reminds me of me a little bit. As she roams around Paris fixing the lives of others, we are introduced to some fabulous characters – the Glass Man, the jealous lover, the hypochondriac, and of course, the traveling Gnome (you will have to see the movie to understand). There are too many fabulous co-stars to name and I am not familiar with any of them anyway. It just suffices to say that they all offer up large doses of humor, intrigue, cleverness, a bit of romance and 15 or so orgasms. Very witty.
